Nurses¢¥ Attitudes toward use of Computerization in Nursing Practice

Abstract
There has been a dramatic increase in the use of acute hospital beds in general hospitals throughout Korea, especially since 1989 when a national health care insurance system and a new health care delivery system were inaugurated.
These events resulted in vastly greater amounts of patient information needing to be communicated quickly and efficiently. Nurses need to communicate within the vanous departments in the hospital and to have easy access to patient information. Automated Nursing Information System have been developed to provide access to important data quickly and thus to contribute to improved patient management and care.
The problem addressed by this study was to identify nurses¢¥ attitudes towards the use of computerization in nursing practice.
The results of this analysis were as follows;
1. The mean attitude score toward use of computerization was 3.23 in a bible range of 1 to 5.
2. Statistical differences between toward computerization was found in need of computerization (F = 3.8317, p =0.0283)
3. No differences between attitudes and age, length of employment, positions, computer education, were found.
4. The need of computer education and length of employment was found statistical differences (x2 =15.19349, p= 0.0555)
In general, the nurses attitudes toward computerization were favorable.
Recommendations were made for replication in other nursing settings and for systemic educational programs in the use of computers in the clinical setting, and development of culturally appropriate strategies to introduce and enhance the use of computers in nursing practice.
The purpose was to contribute to strategies for the introduction, and expanded use of computenzatton in nursing settrngs.
Subjects were 158 nurses in 2 general hospitals located in AN-DONG city.
The data were collected from September 5th to September 16th 1994.
Instrument of this study designed by Brodt and Stronge (1985).
Those were analyzed using the SPSS for frequency, percentage, One-way ANOVA t test, i-test.
